Murdoch Academic Appointed Vice-President of the Australian Society of Legal Philosophy (ASLP)
Dr Augusto Zimmermann has recently returned from the Annual Conference of the Australian Society of Legal Philosophy (ASLP). The Society's Annual Conference was held at the Law School, University of Melbourne, on Friday June 5 and Saturday June 6, 2009. Conference highlights this year included a "public conversation" between retired High Court Justice Michael Kirby and Professor James Allan of the University of Queensland.
On the last day of conference, upon recommendation of its President, Professor Goldsworthy from Monash University, who is one of Australia’s best known legal philosophers, members of the Society decided by unanimity to appoint Dr Zimmermann as one of the Vice-Presidents of the Australian Society of Legal Philosophy.
The ASLP is the Australian Section of the International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy (IVR). It was founded in 1961 at the University of Sydney and it is now based at Monash University, in Melbourne. Among other things, the ASLP publishes the prestigious Australian Journal of Legal Philosophy (AJLP). This refereed journal, which has been published annually for more than twenty five years, is now ranked ‘A’ by the ERA/HCA journal list. Currently the ASLP has over one hundred members.
