Acting Dean's Christmas Reception for the Legal Profession |

The School of Law held its annual Christmas Reception for the Legal Profession on Wednesday, December 4. The Reception was attended by approximately 50 people from the WA legal profession and judiciary, and members of the University community. Among those in attendance were The Hon. Justice Robert Nicholson, of the Federal Court, and The Hon. Justice John McKechnie of the Supreme Court of WA, and prominent Perth barrister Geoff Hancy as well as a number of the School’s long-standing supporters and alumni, and SCALES staff and supporters. The Vice Chancellor, Professor John Yovich, and Faculty Dean Chris Doepel also joined the celebration.
Acting Dean, Associate Professor Fernand de Varennes gave an address highlighting the many triumphs of the School in 2008, including the inaugural offering of the Postgraduate Certificate in Chinese Law, the continued success of the Graduate Certificate in Australian Migration Law and Practice. Professor de Varennes also made mention of our students having represented the School in competitions including the Willem C Vis Internatinal Commercial Arbitration Moot, the Philip Jessup International Law Moot, the Manfred Lachs Aviation and Space Law Moot, and our team who won the Foreign Direct Investments Moot.
