Dr. Augusto Zimmermann
Senior Lecturer, Associate Dean (Research) & Director of Postgraduate Studies
LL.B, LL.M, Ph.D (Monash University)
Dr Augusto Zimmermann is an internationally known legal scholar who teaches law at Western Australia’s Murdoch University, where he currently is Senior Lecturer as well as Research Dean and HDR Director of the School of Law. Dr Zimmermann is also the Founder and President of the Western Australian Legal Theory Association, and a Vice-President of the Australian Society of legal Philosophy as well as Co-editor and Founder of the Western Australian Jurist, a blind peer-review law journal published from Murdoch School of Law.
Dr Zimmermann holds a Ph.D. from Monash University (Australia) as well as a LL.B. (Hons.) and a LL.M. cum laude from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). He has published numerous academic books and articles in several countries, and regularly speaks at conferences and seminars in Australia and overseas. His main areas of interest include Australian Constitutional Law, Brazilian Constitutional Law, American Constitutional Law, Brazilian Law and Society, Federalism, Human Rights Law, Law & Religion, Legal Culture, Legal History, Jurisprudence, and the Rule of Law.
Dr Zimmermann has been awarded the 2012 Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research. He has also been awarded two consecutive Faculty Dean’s Research Awards, in 2010 and 2011. Dr Zimmermann has been included, together with only twelve other Australian academics and policy experts, in the prestigious ‘Policy Experts’ – the Heritage Foundation’s directory for locating knowledgeable authorities and leading policy institutes actively involved in a broad range of public policy issues, both in the United States and worldwide. He has been mentioned in news media such as BBC, The Boston Globe, The Washington Times, and The West Australian.
