Ms Mary Anne Kenny
Senior Lecturer

Mary Anne Kenny has been employed at the MurdochUniversity law School since 1997. She was the Director of the School of Law ’s clinical legal education program at SCALES from 2000 – 2005 and was the Assistant Director from the establishment of the clinic until she was appointed the Director in 2000. She is a graduate of the University of Western Australia and the University of Iowa. She was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 1993 and has been a registered Migration Agent since 1997.
In 2006 she was appointed as a Commissioner to the Law Reform Commission of Western Australia.
Ms Kenny has taught in the Clinical Legal Education unit and the Advanced Clinical Legal Education Unit where she primarily supervised students in representing and advocating on behalf of asylum seekers. She has also taught International Perspectives on Women's Rights. In 2006 she will be teaching in the Graduate Certificate in Migration Law.
She is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the Centre for Human Rights Education at Curtin University and has taught a unit on Human Rights in Australian Law.
Primary areas of research interest are issues of gender and refugee status and separated children. In 2003 while on sabbatical she spent time at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Camberra and was a visiting academic at the Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford, and the Centre for Gender and Refugee Studies at the University of California (Hastings).
Ms Kenny has previously worked for Legal Aid in Perth and for the Youth Legal Service.
